Michelle Violy Harper's musings on all things unique and obstusely or acutely hideously gorgeous.

Art that may offend. Food that may resemble art. Scents that stink of divinity. The really unreal. And of course the much beloved "Fashion Fail"

Because nothing inspiring is flawless or perfect. It's in the failures, the experiments, and the unique that I find the greatest joy.

This is my dream space. Enjoy.

DESIGN ICON: ARMAND ALBERT RATEAU

The beyond exclusive art deco genius with an eye for elegance that was never overly serious. He balanced playfulness with a lush palette of color and form. Rateau was sought out by the most refined aesthetes.

Best known for decorating Jean Lanvin’s homes, and collaborations thereafter, Rateau also kept company with the likes of Paul Poiret, all togther a trio of masterful elegance and artistry.

In the United States Rateau is seldom spoken about - but I cannot recommend enough a visit to the Musee Des Arts Decoratifs in Paris where Lanvin’s rooms designed by Rateau are preserved perfectly.

Armand Albert Rateau was one of the most elegant contributors to the art deco movement.
